Laura Dykema- Team Director-
I have been coaching at GymQuest since it's doors opened in Romeoville in 2003. I have coached all levels from Parent/Tot to competitive team, and I can honestly say that I get just as excited about a toddler jumping on two feet or remembering the moves to their goodbye song at the end of class, as I do about a competitive team girl getting a major skill. I just love working with kids of all ages!
I am just as passionate about teaching non gymnastics skills that will last a lifetime. Learning to be a teammate, accepting failures graciously, properly celebrating victories, being respectful, understanding that with hard work comes success, and more is just as important in my mind.
I have made great friends through this sport and have been touched by so many of the families I have coached. My love for the sport of gymnastics began when I was a gymnast with the Chicago Park District, and becoming a coach of the sport that I love was a dream! My goal is always to nurture that same love of this sport for every child I coach. Seeing kids succeed is my favorite part!
I have been involved in gymnastics for over 13 years. During that time I participated in USAG competitions for Midwest Academy in Warrenville and for Batavia High School. After graduating from Northern Michigan University, I moved back to the area and took a part time coaching job at GymQuest. My intention was to look for a "real" job however coaching quickly became my passion. This passion has turned into a career over the last six years.
Throughout my coaching career, I have coached all levels of recreational gymnastics as well as AAU, USAG, and Xcel Teams. I am excited to return to GymQuest where my passion for coaching was sparked.
I value the lessons that I have learned through participation in sports and being part of a team. I hope to teach children to enjoy being active and healthy and to inspire them to love the sport of gymnastics the way I do.
